Here are the facts. Our cultural is changing drastically and at lightning speed. The world we knew is shrinking and our cultural is blending with other cultures. Geographic bounties and language barriers are disappearing; and our norms are shifting. This has been happening for the last two centuries but today it is happening at lightning speed because of new technology. Today's young person entering the job market today must be prepared to learn, unlearn, and relearn continuously for a life time.
So why do so many in the local church resist the adapting and implementing the new technology into the ministry? Why are we so slow to adapt new methodology? Could it be that we fear change?
Allow me to make it clear, I am not for change for change sake. I am for change that allows the unchanging message to reach the unchurched and non-believing. It appears to me that some Christians believe "greater is he (i.e. Jesus) that is in you, than he that is in the world" - except in the new digital age! Instead of being fearful of the new technology we should be embracing the benefits it offers.
So say I. What do you say? (Comments are welcome!) Follow @pastorbarr
"The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn." -Alvin Toffler
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear... Romans 8:15
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
Jesus experienced exactly the same situation.
ReplyDeleteMEN'S TRADITIONS ABOVE ALL ELSE.
Don't mess with the way I do things!!!!
The Lord led me over a period of twenty five years into a concept called Highest Truth.
This means that one has to pursue the highest truth available on any concievable subject, relentlessly.
Inevitably, mens traditions are left behind and new vistas get opened, much to the discomfort of people who believe in 'don't rock my boat in any way!'.
The website below, and the books I am uploading to Amazon.com currently are direcly a result of pursuing the Highest Truth.
I have been accused of putting too many Scriptures in my material, but I submit that the view must be from the hills, and ot the valley, if we want to gain perspective.
Bless you for raising the subect of productive change.
Good discussion Pastor. I read Steve Job's biography recently and he refused to have PowerPoint in many of his meetings, sticking with white board or and pens. It is good to get on board with new technology but not to go overboard. I think sometimes churches feel the need to have PowerPoint at every service, meting etc. I think we need to use the right tool for the job and sometimes low tech is best?
ReplyDeleteGood point Alan. The right tool and the right time by the right person. It requires commonsense and not much of that going around.
